WHAT: 2017 VETERANS STAND DOWN ON O‘AHU, HAWAII

AN EVENT FOR HOMELESS VETERANS AND THEIR FAMILIES

WHERE: Waialua Community Center

WHEN: Friday, September 1, 2017 (0900 – 1400 Hours)

The 2017 Veterans Stand Down on O’ahu is more than a resource fair. The event allowed Veterans to access the VA Health Care and VA Benefit experts along with community agencies that provided services at one site to ensure coordinated care; offering tools and support to Veterans and their families seeking to stabilize their housing situation.

Veterans had the chance to speak with subject matter experts from the Veterans Affairs Pacific Island Health Care System, VA Regional Benefits Office and community agencies.

There were approximately 25-30 service providers for housing, health care, health/wellness, financial benefits, clothing, haircuts, food, music, entertainment, gifts baskets and more. All Veterans needed to bring were their DD214 or Veteran card.

Commander Lazarus and Commander Lam were happy to meet with fellow veterans to provide needed assistance and donated personal hygene kits. We greatly appreciate the great work all the vendors, volunteers, and the Hawaii VA for hosting a well organized event for our nation’s veterans.
