We are happy to announce that Representative Kimberly Pine will be a guest speaker on Friday, May 25th, 2012 [Memorial Day Weekend], the USS Arizona Memorial 2012 Golf Event & Banquet fundraiser and to honor our returning Warriors, at Marine Corps Base Hawaii Officer’s Club and Klipper Golf Course.
As A Legislator: Representative Kymberly Marcos Pine was elected to the State House of Representatives in 2004 beating incumbent and former union president, Romy Mindo, with 60% of the vote. She represents District 43 which covers the areas of West Loch Fairways, West Loch Village, Parts of Ewa By Gentry, Puuloa, Ocean Pointe, Ewa Beach and Iroquois Point. She serves as the House Minority floor leader, and is the first Republican to be elected to this seat since statehood.
A trained journalist, Kymberly never imagined that she would be an elected official. Watching Ewa Beach being neglected by government leaders in the areas of traffic relief, school funding and crime, motivated her to run for office to ensure that Ewa Beach was no longer left behind. In just five years of being in office, Ewa Beach received a record $700 million for new roads, to fix Ewa Beach schools and various other projects that will benefit the people of Ewa Beach. Tougher crime laws were also passed.
Family: In the early 1900’s, Kymberly’s grandfather Nemesio Marcos immigrated from Ilocos Norte, Philippines with a few pesos, a picture of the Statue of Liberty, and a dream that his descendants will one day go to college and be spared the hardships of plantation life. He later went on to fight in World War II and was one of thousands of U.S. military soldiers who defended America during the attack on Pearl Harbor. Kymberly’s great grandparents on her grandmother’s side of the family emigrated from Pagansinan and Tarlac, Philippines. They worked on Maui and Ewa plantations. Her family was very poor back then and yet they worked hard to ensure success for future generations. This is one of the reasons that Rep. Pine is so passionate to the poor and why she works at U.S. VETS – HAWAII, a home for former homeless veterans.
Work Experience: Like her ancestors, Kymberly has a strong work ethic and a passionate desire to succeed. She graduated from the prestigious University of California, Berkeley where she obtained a Bachelors Degree in English. She has won numerous awards for her writing, and was the youngest to be appointed as Director of the Minority Research Office in the State House of Representatives. In this position, she ran a team focused on finding waste and mismanagement in government spending and creating new solutions to Hawaii’s problems. Her work in policy has received extensive coverage in local television, radio, and print media and has also been used by the Governor’s and Lt. Governor’s offices. She also held a position as an adviser on Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger’s campaign for after-school programs.
Hobbies: Public service is not the only part of Kymberly’s life that she works hard at. She is also an avid athlete. She completed the 42-mile Molokai channel race to Oahu and the Waikiki Rough Water Swim competition. In high school she was a well-known athlete as a member of the Hawaii Olympic Development Soccer Team, and was chosen as the Oahu Interscholastic Association West All-Star MVP player. She also was a well-known cross-country and track star, placing second in the OIA in various competitions.
In Ewa Beach, Kymberly is a member of the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church where she is a lector and member of the Filipino Catholic Club, and a former AYSO Soccer Coach and is the former Chairperson of the Ewa Beach Weed and Seed Neighborhood Restoration Project.
