“The holidays have always been a special time for Americans no matter how far away they are from home. This is even truer for the men and women in uniform today just as it was over 70 years ago. During World War II, while fighting continued against the Axis Powers, the world celebrated its first global Thanksgiving. During this time, a Presidential Proclamation was given each year to celebrate Thanksgiving, and then each state would decide how to follow the proclamation. During the first years of World War II, there were confusions about the holiday, however for the troops there were none.”
